Coming from a family that is addicted to music themselves, I grew up in my early 1s and 2s (yeah :P not 10s or 20s) listening to Dire Straits, Santana, Pink Floyd, ABBA, Boney M and a lot of others. Thinking back, when I was in 4-5th grade or so, I was a mad Boney M fan, collecting all of their music, lyrics and video CDs. I can't recollect the number of times I've listened to their 'Love For Sale'. And even though I don't listen to them much now, many of their songs are still eched in my memory as the greatest classics ever.
But, when I think about it, these didn't start the fever for me. And yeah, I am not ashamed to say that the song that passed on the epidemic to me was 'Everybody' by Backstreet Boys :P I remember the day I first saw the video on MTv. I was like 'woah! *_*' xD Upon hearing it for the first time itself I was in love with the song. I even took out my sketch book (pieces of paper clipped together) and drew 5 figures, the same 5 figures I saw on the video - a vampire, a mummy, a guy with a messed up face, a guy with metal on his face and a werewolf. From then on I waited for the video to come again on TV, and whenever it did, I was literally jumping on the sofa xD

Then I begged my Dad to get me their cassette ;) He told my uncle (who happens to have a big collection of music cassettes) and he showed me his HUGE collection of cassettes. And soon, I was picking random artists to try. Later on I was trying Foreigner, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and a lot of others.
Here is a list of those classics which showed me the way :)
And no, these might not be the best work by each artist, but what the hell? There is no 'best' in music! (warn you, this list is long :D)
